Responses to the Boasian School of Anthropology Essay

The Boasian school of anthropology, headed by Franz Boas, was among those that pioneered modern concepts in anthropology. The Boasian school was critical of overgeneralizing perspectives or theories in the sciences, including the cultural evolutionary school in anthropology, choosing instead to adopt rigorous empiricism in its approach. The Boasian school believed in the world having distinct cultures and that cross-cultural generalizing often made in the natural sciences are not possible in anthropology. The school today uses the â€Å"four field approach† that divides the field into socio-cultural, biological, linguistic and prehistoric anthropology. While Leslie White was educated in the Boasian school of anthropology, he later began to question the anti-evolutionary views of his early education. He developed and advocated an anthropological, ethical and political view of the world almost targeted against the Boasian school. Leslie White embraced two contradictory models of culture: the sut generts conceptions from his Boasian education and the materialist-utilitarian framework developed out of his concern with cultural evolutionism. White never reconciled the two but he definitely gave stress to the Boasian-based sut generts in case of conflicts. White feared that the Boasian school’s concept of cultural determinism represented an emasculation of anthropology and instead advocated science and evolution, particularly 19th Boasian School 1 century theories. White regarded culture as superorganic made up of the technology, social organization and ideology levels. It should be noted, however, that White still held on to the Boasian-based sut generts and that he still tended to downgrade the impact made by the natural environment on culture and society. Julian Steward was a fellow evolutionist with Leslie White. Differing slightly from White, Julian steward’s concepts of evolution and progress was not limited to 19th century concepts. Steward, who was a pluralist in terms of openness to other views, never sharply broke up with the Boasian school. But he did find anomalies in the historical particularism paradigm of the Boasian school. Steward viewed evolution as ‘recurrent forms, processes, and functions’, in opposition to Boasian’s repudiation of evolution and regularity in culture. He also perceived culture as superorganic, similar to a limited extent to White’s culturology. Steward’s multi-linear evolution aspect of his approach to anthropology differed from the extreme particularism of the Boasian school but without adopting the antithetically unilinear evolution concept of White. Barack Obama Back to School Essay

On September 8th 2009, the president of The United States, Barack Obama gave a speech called â€Å"Back to School†. The speech was about the responsibility that you have as a young individual – responsibility you have for yourself, your teachers, parents, and your country. Obama mentions, among other things, that you have to attend school to find out what your good at, and what you want to make of your future. He says that without education your never going to get the job you want most. He says that what you make of your education is going to determine the future of the country and if you quit school and quit on yourself, your giving up on our country. Throughout the speech, Obama makes references to not only his own life experiences, but also, the American dream. He ends his speech by saying, that it is hard to be successful and that you have to fight to achieve your goal in life. You have to practice, study hard and not be afraid of asking people for help. Furthermore he ends his speech by asking his audience questions and to say that he has great expectations for this new generation. The President of the United States Barack Obama is the speaker of the text â€Å"Back to School†. His audience is not only the young people at Wakefield High School, but moreover young people attending school in all over America. P. 1 l. 1: â€Å"Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today? † It is already indicated in the first line that he is trying to level with his audience, the young students, despite of his status. Furthermore he uses the words â€Å"I know†, and almost turns them into a phrase. With this phrase, which appears several times through the text, he indicates to the audience that he knows their feelings or thoughts. The imagery in this speech is very vivid, showing what success looks like, and what an individual could make of their life. With the use of small and simple sentences Obama tries to get the point across that school is important and one needs an education to survive in this world. The length of the speech shows how adamant he is of children staying in school, and trying to better their future. There is a lot of repetition in the speech, stating that school is important, and an education is necessary in life, and that you cant get what you want without practicing hard, studying even harder and always trying your best. There seems to be no form of alliteration in this speech. Many people use the alliteration of speech to capture the audience and individual minds. Obama references to many other famous people who have failed many times and still succeed. â€Å"J. K. Rowling’s — who wrote Harry Potter — her first Harry Potter book was rejected 12 times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. He lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, ‘I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that’s why I succeed. ’†. The language of this poem shows that the speech is meant for a young audience, possibly kindergarden-12th grade. Barack talks about staying in school, a the responsibility an individual has as a student. He directly addresses the audience, by using the word â€Å"you†. He uses a very direct tone in order to capture the audience in a better way. With the use of logos, the spectators can better understand what the President is saying to them by using his own experiences, and journeys. Trying to sound like president Kennedy, Obama makes the audience feel comfortable, and makes them feel like what he is saying is true. He uses promptness and sternness to show how serious education is, not only for yourself, but your country. Toward the middle of his speech Obama says â€Å"The truth is, being successful is hard. You won’t love every subject that you study. You won’t click with every teacher that you have. Not every homework assignment will seem completely relevant to your life right at this minute. And you won’t necessarily succeed at everything the first time you try. † This helps ones mind feel at ease with knowing he’s speaking the truth.

In this regard, internet is undoubtedly regarded as one of the most widely used technologies in the world today. In relation to this significant aspect, the aspect of internet censorship is regarded as the approach or the part of censorship which provides certain necessary restrictions on accessing various sorts of published contents in the World Wide Web (WWW). It would be vital to mention that internet censorship rules differ from one country to other and also from one particular region to other. In the GCC region comprising countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, censorship has a different face altogether (Mohammed, 2012). However, there are certain controversies associated with internet censorship that are also visible in the GCC region. ... Hence, it can be affirmed that the decisions that are usually taken with regard to internet censorship in various regions of the world are subjected to several controversies. Thesis Statement Considering the brief discussion illustrated above regarding internet censorship, the later part of the discussion will mainly focus on depicting the importance and the purpose of internet censorship in the world today along with worthy and relevant examples. The paper will also seek to provide an in-depth understanding about the aspect of internet censorship in the GCC regions. Internet Censorship Definition Censorship is regarded as the approach of the concerned authorities situated in almost every nation of the world towards supervising and controlling the information or the ideas that are disseminated within the people living in the society. This might include examining the books, plays, films along with television shows and restraining the contents that might be unpleasant for the people li ving in the society. Correspondingly, the approach of internet censorship is examining the contents that are published, uploaded or accessed in the internet and restraining the objectionable part for the people of the nations. It would be vital to mention that the approach or the criteria of selecting objectionable contents might differ with the values and morals of the concerned authorities from region to region (Oklahoma State University, 2013). The Purpose of Censorship The significance of Censorship is ought to differ from region to region owing to the purpose for which it is being practiced. However, in general, the purpose of censorship is to preserve the

Aircraft Maintenance and Structures Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Aircraft Maintenance and Structures - Assignment Example The ability to withstand this weight depends entirely on its maximum landing weight and maximum take-off weight. The main reason for its weight check is to determine the basic empty weight and determine where and how it balances on these conditions. This is also achieved by determining the empty weight and centre of gravity (GüEmes 2006, 47). Being a cumbersome exercise to undertake, especially its either wings or tail dragger, there might be need to determine the middle of gravity and balancing the aircraft might necessitates the need for extra support, this weights that are used to support in the actual weighing process must be exempted from the weight of the plane by determining the tare weight. This is the final weight of all equipment’s that are used up the machine and deducting the weight of the supporting tools to arrive at the actual aircraft weight (Baker et al 2012, 45). The centre of gravity being at a point next to the datum on helicopters and small aircraft, the larger planes middle of gravity is determined in relation to the size of its wings. The wing being the width and the leading and the trailing edge is factored to determine the mean aerodynamic chord and aid in determining the midpoint of gravity too. In the attempt to weigh the aircraft and determine its centre of gravity, a technical responsibility is taken. This is access to information for the purpose of balance and weighs data. This includes aircraft specifications, aircraft operation limit, aircraft flight manual, aircraft weight and balance report and aircraft type certificate data sheet (GüEmes 2006, 57). Before releasing an aircraft to an operation, there are several documents which need to be consulted and fully taken into consideration. Pilot operating handbook gives one of the basic requirements that must be fully adhered before the plane is released to the field to carry its routine (Pardalos et al 2009, 330).  Ã‚

System and databases Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

System and databases - Essay Example The details of the venue should be kept for record purposes. Presenters should be paid upon completion of the conference. It is important for the staff to check if the conference was run for the first-time or repeated because the presenters are paid higher fees for the first-time conference as they have to write the material for it. The details of payment, such as, amount, method etc. should be recorded, and a pay slip for the presenter. A record of the payment should be kept for tax and other purposes. ii. Define the Business System Option which you think is best for the organisation, taking all factors into consideration. It is not necessary to give a detailed technical specification or precise costing. The reasons for the recommendation should be clearly stated and the implications for the organisation fully explored. However all points should be directly relevant to the organisation and expressed as concisely as possible. Marks will be deducted if the answer has many vague generalisations about the benefits of IT. The users can forward their suggestions about new topics through the website, hence, eliminating the need for consulting or contacting organizations and delegates over the phone or in person on regular basis. Once users are able to include their nominations for potential topics and companies are able to offer their sponsorship through the website, it would be also possible for the system to automatically determine the feasibility of conferences for setup. This option will increase the productivity of the research department to the great extent. The system shall list down appropriate presenters for the conference on the basis of their experience, education, or any specified criteria. This would allow the Production department to select the suitable presenter in less period of time. The system shall keep a check on unpaid invoices and shall be able to generate

Improving the Interface of Empirical Modelling Tools Dissertation

Improving the Interface of Empirical Modelling Tools - Dissertation Example Related Work Throughout the Empirical Modelling research several tools have been developed to provide a definitive notation environment for developing models. Each of them serves different purpose, but most are based on the EDEN language. The most well known tool used in EM research is tkeden; many models have been built using tkeden. It is a definitive system that can manage definitions based on the EDEN language and is implemented with tk/tcl. Tkeden has had massive contributions throughout EM research and led to many variations based on EDEN. Abstract Definitive Machine Meurig Beynon, Mike Slade and Edward Yung designed the Abstract Definitive Machine (ADM) in 1988. It is designed as a computational model that is based upon definitive representations of state. ADM is a tool for animating the LSD specifications to represent concurrent action by parallel redefinition and reflects context dependence of agent actions by the use of scripts. Cadence Cadence is an environment that is based on the DOSTE interpreter. Candence IDE, the Warwick Games Design (WGD) library and EDEN are examples of modules that can communicate with DOSTE. DOSTE itself is conceived as a special kind of operating system, and has been deployed in this way [3]. In Cadence, DOSTE captures current state via a combinatorial graph: a family of nodes connected by directed edges. There are also labels nodes in the graph. The DOSTE state is constantly being updated, so the structure of the graph is subject to change.

Process Analysis Paper Research Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Process Analysis - Research Paper Example Process thinking alerts managers to the pathway to be used in decision making. The inappropriate pathway may cause losses due to lack of understanding processing and informational biases. It helps to optimize the whole organization as it is seen as an entire rather than departments. For instance, the expedient pathway, which relies on, the manager’s level expertise without the benefit of information while the global perspective pathway assumes that available information influences an individual’s perception (Rodgers, 2006). Managers use process thinking as an aid in strategic thinking and organizational design resulting in flexibility in response to both internal and external changes. Ability to adapt to changes gives an organization a competitive edge against its competitors (Goetsch & Davis, 2009). For example, changes that happen outside the organization will require management to rely on a path that focuses more information not to be caught off guard. It is an accep table method to empower employees as well as hone their creative skills in decision making. As the organization embraces process thinking, it allows employees to take the initiative in the interest of the organization’s objectives (Goetsch & Davis, 2009). ... This implies that incase of problems, blame is directed at the process rather than the person. Process thinking, therefore, focuses on optimizing systems and fostering cooperative problem solving and decision making. For instance, it allows managers to examine the fitness of a pathway to organizations needs when a problem occurs as a result of following a laid down process (Goetsch & Davis, 2009). It allows sifting through information for relevance and where to begin because people are bombarded with information from different media coupled with limited processing ability. Quality Management Tools Quality management tools are used to improve activities as well as the decision making process and these tools can be used at all stages of production (Goetsch & Davis, 2009). Two of the tools that facilitate proper decision making are the Pareto chart and Cause and effect diagram. This is because they are clear visual representation of problems and their causes. The Pareto chart is used to focus on analysis process and solution finding. It positions problems and their causes in reference to their frequency and occurrences. It points out opportunities and their priorities for improvement and shows where to concentrate efforts and the biggest causes to the problem. It creates a common view, as success in quality management depends on sharing common views of problems and actions to be taken. Another advantage is that it used in comparison of the before and after situations after improvement action. Therefore, it is an effective tool in determining progress and effectiveness of action taken (Goetsch & Davis, 2009). For example it will show the president the necessary information without dwelling on the non issues saving time and resources

Guidance and Support to Meet Learning Needs Essay

Guidance and Support to Meet Learning Needs - Essay Example This research will begin with the statement that special needs are requirements that occur naturally in people thereby necessitating particular attention on them. They may be psychological or medical. They usually lead to problems in learning for students. The difficulties that such students experience in learning is normally not associated with mental disability. The students possess a certain degree of intelligence, but their brain may fail to register information in the desired manner, thereby making it difficult for them to grasp information fast especially in learning institutions. Nevertheless, they are capable of studying and succeeding in academics. There are many characteristics that are exhibited by students with learning disability. These can be helpful to the teachers while trying to identify the students with special needs. The students occasionally fail to pay attention for a long period and are easily diverted by external occurrences beyond the classroom. They are norm ally forgetful and have problems of time consciousness. It is therefore difficult for them to make a proper time plan. The problem can also be exhibited in their inability to write legible handwritings and their reduced capacity to read. They usually omit some words while reading as well as pronouncing some letters incorrectly. This may be attributed to their inadequate coordination of the eyes and the hands. Understanding and adhering to instructions is usually difficult with a poor reasoning capacity, and therefore they fail to make sensible objectives.

The Modernization and Dependency Theories of Development Essay

The Modernization and Dependency Theories of Development - Essay Example the United States and the United Kingdom) and the less developed countries found in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This paper aims to present a comparative analysis between the modernization theory and the dependency theory; as such our aim is to highlight the differences in assumption and arguments of both theories that renders them to be of two opposing poles. We shall also attempt to investigate the points in which these frameworks meet and the issues they can find agreement on. It is imperative to first give a brief overview of the contents of both theories in order for as to clearly see the borders in which they work.Modernization as used in social sciences and in this case is defined as the transformation from a traditional, bucolic, and agrarian society into an urbanized and industrialized one (Johnson, 2005a). The social changes that constitute and results from such shift affects the society in which it is occurring entirely, a forward looking development in the lives of its constituents, and also deemed to be irreversible by modernist theorists.Modernization theory placed this concept as an overriding notion for its framework, initially putting emphasis and being born out of the rapid advancement of technology and the mass media during the 1950's and 60's (Johnson, 2005a). It can be recognized as having adapted features from the classic evolutionary theory as well as the functionalist theory. In terms of its evolutionary aspects, modernization theory is a process, literally a social and economic evolution, whereby it claims that all states go through various phases of development in a unidirectional/linear way. The most adopted formulation of such a view, is that of Walter Rostow's Stages of modernization: a.) the traditional (non-modern society that is still agriculturally based, and whose social structure is values and kinship oriented); b.) the takeoff stage can be triggered by natural, rapid climb to modernity because of the set of ideas of indivi dualism, democracy and economic opportunity or pressure to adapt in the rise of other developing countries (this phase may be further characterized by a rise in investment and entrepreneurship, transportation and communications, economic shifts being technological shifts); c.) Drive to technological maturity (marked by the flourishing of national economy and dependence on foreign trade links is dictated by economic calculations and political priorities, not by technical and institutional necessities etc.); and the last stage would be the d.) mass-consumption marked by increase income thus rendering mas consumption possible, consumer goods and services centered production, and an investment in the welfare state (Julkunen, 2006). The modernization theory asserts that the well developed countries have reached the advance stages if not the epitome of development and are at a position that could provide aide and role-modelling for the less developed states. One of the controversial claims of modernization is its appeal to homogenize society, by proposing that third world countries mimic/emulate the example of those in the western world. Dependency in itself refers to the over reliance of one nation on another. Dependency theory arised as a response to the modernization theory; it's core principles and assumptions can be considered to be opposite to those upheld by the latter mentioned. The central claim of this theory is that there exist a highly unequal distribution of Power and resources in the world economic system, and places less developed countries (LCDs) in a dependent position in relation to the industrial powers (Johnson, 2005b). Being one of the many

People with bad manners surround us Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

People with bad manners surround us - Essay Example According to the research findings bad manners disrupts other people, infringe their comfort, and as Nightingale explains, is a serious concerns when it interferes with expected utilities that people have paid for. Staring at people that you do not know, with a possible implication that they also do not recognize you, for instance, has a tendency of creating suspicion from the target. This may lead to discomfort, as a person may feel insecure or embarrassed for thoughts of improper conduct. Consequently, the observer interferes with the targets comfort. Gossiping loudly in the library is another example of bad manners that distracts people from the environment’s main activity. Being a place for either borrowing resources or studying the resources, the library should be quiet, conducive for study or communication with attendants. Loud gossips in the place therefore adversely affect other people, especially the studying group. Another form of bad manners in a public environment is swearing loudly. This has an impact of raising alarm among other people, leading to fear and animosity. Its negative effects on people may also lead to health complications from involuntary biological reactions. Staring at people that you do not know, gossiping loudly in the library, and swearing in the public therefore significantly pose adverse conditions to other people and are consequently bad manners.

Computer aided design package Essay Example for Free

Computer aided design package Essay A company called Engineering ? Us have employed me to find out the cost, benefits and the drawbacks of upgrading from their current method of hand made technical drawing to using an up-to-date Computer Aided Design (CAD) package. This company designs and constructs office furniture to order; because of this work only begins on an item once the exact details of the item have been calculated and have the clients approval. The current method which is used to gather the information that the designers need to make the drawings for the office is to send over a person to measure the location where the item or items of furniture will be located and how they will get the item into the building. After this has happened and the measurements have been given to the designers the designers will draw the blueprints by pen and paper. After they have drawn the design they will send the blueprint via one of the companys employees to the client for him/her to look at and decide if it is what they wanted. If the client decided they liked the design the blueprint would be sent down to the workshop where they would start construction of the design. If the client didnt like the blueprint that the designers had made Engineering ? Us would find out from the client what was incorrect with the blueprints, then the designers would redesign the blueprints with the clients inputs in mind. After this it is shown to the client again to see if it is to their liking. The reason the company is upgrading to a CAD based system from their hand drawn method is that up until now they have only had to make items on a smaller scale with a lot of time allowed for each project. Currently they allow the designer to make the drawings on the A0 paper taking their time which would take a few months, then have it sent to the manufacturing department to be constructed. Now they have managed to negotiate a contract with another company who will require Engineering ? Us to make the items faster, this means that they will need the technical drawings drawn faster so they can construct the items sooner. To allow this to happen they have decided to change from their current system to a computer based system using a CAD package appropriate to their needs. Engineering ? Us is a small company; they have one office and a workshop which are situated in separate places. The office block is where the items are designed and the workshop is where they are constructed using the designs from the office block. To transport the drawings from the office block to the workshop they walk over from the office block to the workshop with them, the reason they do this rather than any other method is that the two locations are very close together. Engineering ? Us has ten people working in the workshop where they are constructing the designs that are made and they have two designers drawing the blueprints in the office. There are also seven people who take blueprints out to clients to make sure that they like the drawing before Engineering ? Us constructs the design. These five people also take orders and measurements of the areas where the clients want the items to be placed and deliver the items to the client using a company van. The company has three supervisors, one is in charge of the technical drawing department, one is in charge of the workshop and one is in charge of the five people who communicate directly with the clients. One manager is in charge of all three of the supervisors and then the director of Engineering ? Us is above him. In total this brings the number of employees working for Engineering ? Us to twenty and two of these twenty employees will be using the system I am to justify. The company has recently won a new contract from a client and now has to construct a lot more furniture over a shorter period of time. For the company to meet these demands they have decided to upgrade their workshop to use a CAM machine that will speed up construction. The CAM machine has already been chosen by the company and the training plus everything else that is required for the CAM machine to operate. Engineering ? Us only require me to analysis the designing part of the company and make this more efficient to keep up with the new contract they have acquired. Engineering ? Us wants me to come up with a system that will run a CAD package that I justify for the company to use. This system will have to output a file format compatible with the CAM machine so that they integrate with each other easily. The contract will provide the company with i 60,000 at the end of the year once all of the items have been constructed and delivered to the client. This will be paid in instalments at the end of each month of i5,000. This contract will also be renewed with the client providing that Engineering ? Us can adequately provide the items they required within the allotted time frame. The system that I have been asked to come up with will have two users; these two users are currently working with Engineering ? Us and they will need to be trained in using the new system as they have not had any training or experience with any CAD application. They also need to have the capability to back up their drawings daily so that if something did happen to their hard drive they wouldnt have lost everything. They also want all three computers linked up to their own network separate to any others that the company already have. It also needs to be connected to the internet so they can download updates for their CAD package as updates become available over the internet. The company has given me a budget of i 15,000 to come up with a costing to make or to buy two PCs capable of running a CAD package that I justify and anything else that is needed to run this application. With this budget I will also need to buy an A0 plotter, two graphics tablets, networking equipment and training for the employees on using the CAD package. P2 The company currently has two computers in their office block; these computers are very old and are only used for word processing for administration tasks. The current specification of their computers is shown in the table below: Component Specification Processor Intel Pentium 166 MHz (Random Access Memory) RAM 30MB Optical drive CD-ROM x8 speed Hard drive 9GB Modem 56K The computers they currently have cant be upgraded to use any of the new CAD packages because everything in the current computers would all need to be replaced to make it compatible with any new CAD packages. This would effectively mean making a new computer rather than upgrading it, so just constructing a new computer would be a more cost effective way of proceeding. For that reason it would be better to keep these computers for administration purposes they are currently being used for, this would allow the company to still use them and not have to throw them away as they do their current task perfectly. DeltaCAD, MiniCAD, TurboCAD and AutoCAD are four different CAD packages that I have found that could do the job required by Engineering ? Us. The reason I have chosen these four is because the CAM machine in the workshop will only accept . DWG files for reading and if the CAD package didnt output . DWG files it would not be able to integrate with the CAM machine. These files must be contained on a floppy disk as the CAM machine has only a floppy drive input and then it will read the data from it and construct to the specified design. I have chosen to further investigate three separate CAD packages out of the ones listed above; these three are DeltaCAD, TurboCAD and AutoCAD. The reason I have decided to investigate these further is that DeltaCAD is the cheapest, TurboCAD is the mid range and AutoCAD is the most expensive out of the packages. Using these three will give me a wide band of different costs for the different CAD applications which will allow me to come up with cheap systems, mid ranged and expensive an system for the company. This will help me not only stick to the budget I have been allocated but may also save the company money depending on the over all costs of the CAD package that is used. After finding out more on DeltaCAD, TurboCAD and AutoCAD I have found out that the latest versions of these three CAD packages are DeltaCAD 5. 0, TurboCAD 10 and AutoCAD 2005. DeltaCAD is made by a company called Midnight Software, TurboCAD is made by a company called IMSI and AutoCAD is made by a company called Autodesk, both IMSI and AutoCAD sell other products that are like CAD, but they will not be suitable for the tasks that Engineering ? Us require of it. Upon further investigation I have discovered one problem with TurboCAD that DeltaCAD and AutoCAD dont have is that the CAM machine might not read the files it outputs perfectly. TurboCAD 10 outputs a different type of file but they state that this type of file is perfectly compatible with any CAM machine that reads . DWG files. Although they say this I think that from past experiences there could be problems from time to time with this type of file on Engineering ? Uss CAM machine, when these problems arise it will slow the construction process down. P3/M2 I will have to either buy a new PC from a store or make the computers myself; whichever approach is adopted the hardware that will have to be in the machine will be the same and is listed below: Motherboard which will support all other hardware required for the computer   Video card to output a display on the monitor for the user to see what they are doing   CD-ROM drive to install the software applications which will be needed for the task the company requires of it   Floppy Drive to move the . DWG files to the CAM machine in the workshop to construct the items, this can also be very useful for fixing a broken computer or to help analyse its fault   Case for all of the components that will make up the computer to go into. RAM for the computer to open up applications and to keep data that is being used at the present times Hard drive to install the software applications on and store the CAD files created   Keyboard for the users to enter in alphanumeric data and other characters   Mouse or other pointing device for the user to move the curser on the screen   Processor to be able to process all of the data that needs to be processed   Processor heat sink to take heat off of the processor and disperse it into the air. Fans to keep the components inside the computer cool enough to work correctly, e. g. processor fan, case fans and video card fan   DVD/CD reader rewriter drive to back up the drawings that they produce during the day   Monitor for the user to view what they are doing while using the computer Other hardware that will be needed that is not part of the computer and is not needed to get the computer working, but will be required by the company to enable it to do all the work required is the A0 plotter and graphics tablets. An A0 sized plotter will be used to print off the CAD drawings on A0 paper and used to show the blueprints to the clients, they then decide if they like it or not from these blueprints. The reason that they will need to be printed out on A0 size paper is because due to the size of the items they are designing and the amount of information that needs to be shown to the clients it can only be easily displayed on an A0 sized piece of paper. One advantage of the system for the plotters is that there would only need to be one cheap plotter that prints off the drawings in low quality.

How sympathetic a character Essay Example for Free

How sympathetic a character Essay Upon reading Aristophanes Wasps for the first time, Procleon, the antihero of the play, evokes a strange sort of sympathy. The part of us that wants to rebel against the system identifies with his character, and admires the way in which, in the second half of the play, he does what the man in the street would really like to do (K Dover) and generally places himself above authority. Aristophanes loads Procleons character with vulgarity and nastiness, but does it in such a way that an audience seeing the play for the first time will focus on sympathizing with him as the `heroic character more than his deep-seated and twisted darker side. For instance, in the first scene we see Procleon trapped inside his own home, treated not like a villain or monster, but a mentally ill obsessive, or trialophile. The more you warn him, the more he goes to court. Thats why weve had to bolt him in and guard the house for fear he gets out. The way the two slaves describe Procleons personality is quite comic. They describe him as a sad old man. He then tries to escape later on by holding on to the bottom of a donkey as it comes out of the house, in a parody of Odysseus in Homers Odyssey. On one hand, we find his wit amusing, and he tries to mirror the cunning of Odysseus, and on the other hand we laughingly pity him for trying such an idea, especially onstage as it looks absurd. Aristophanes is poking fun at the latest trend in Athenian society in the ridiculous person of Procleon. However, Athenian litigiousness and trial mania are not his only target. In his conversion from his former jurymans life, Procleon becomes a caricature of an upper-class snob engaging in one of the well-heeled sets favourite addictions: dressing up in your finery, attending drinking parties and meetings of secret societies and going on drunken rampages through the streets, beating up passers by, knocking over statues, mauling slaves and women, etc. By the end of the play, its hard to tell whether Procleon is ny better off for having traded a poor mans pastime for a rich mans. In the first half of the play, we  see Procleon as a bloodthirsty bastard, a sadistic slave to Cleon whose only friends are the similarly savage, vespine jurymen. Just seeing this feeble army of nasty old men, we find immediate comedy. On the surface, nothing about Procleon seems too bad, just a rather crazed old man with a strange obsession. He enjoys voting defendants down: he is comically sadistic. D. MacDowell However, when we look deeper into the play and Procleons character, we see that there is a far darker and more sinister side to him. First of all, there is the fact that the only reason he enjoys sitting on the jury so much is so that he can wreak pain and suffering upon innocent people. I long to come to court with you, some solid, lasting harm to do. There is also the way in which he treats his daughter, in a rather incestuous manner. she leans over to give me a kiss and fish out those three obols with her tongue! spends his days in the infliction of pain on others and his evenings in running his hand up his daughters skirt. Process of Socialization in Schools

Process of Socialization in Schools Socialisation is a complicated, lifelong process responsible for helping to shape an individuals identity (Germov Poole, 2007) and the way in which they blend into their society. A persons beliefs, their thoughts and behaviours are affected by this process, both now and later in their life. By learning the beliefs, attitudes and values of the society into which they were born (Pujari, 2015) every individual ascertains how to feel, to think and to behave in ways that are socially acceptable (Bessant Watts, 2007). The socialisation process of an individual is affected by their environment; by their natural biology and their culture or the nurturing they receive as they are developing (McCleod, 2007). The process of socialisation begins almost as soon as a baby is born and three factors which greatly influence this process are their family, their school experiences and their gender. An individuals family is responsible for their socialisation, however this process has been affected due to the different ways in which a family unit may be formed in todays society (Germov Poole, 2007). Families are generally responsible for beginning an individuals socialisation process and these effects are long lasting (Berryman, Power, Hollitt, 2002). This early socialisation is greatly influenced by nature and nurture factors (McCleod, 2007). The key to positive socialisation, according to Parsons (Germov Poole, 2004), is a supportive, constant family in which women and men have totally separate roles although they complement each other within the family unit. The role of women, the changing roles and jobs of family members and single parent families all impact on an individuals socialisation process (Germov Poole, 2004). The school is a major factor in the process if an individuals socialisation. During their time at school children are taught a curriculum however they are also influenced by their teachers and their peers. Bandurra, a socio-behaviourist theorist (Nolan Raban, 2015), believes the manner in which teachers demonstrate and model behaviour indicates how they wish the students in their class to behave. A childs interactions with their peers also influences their behaviour as they learn how to please others, restrict unfavourable behaviour and be socially acceptable (Long-Crowell, 2003 2016). Impact of school on an individuals socialisation and the formation of social values, especially conformity (Soldana, 2023). The impact of the informal or hidden curriculum (Germov Poole, 2004) on the socialisation process. The influence of an individuals peer group on their socialisation and the use of multi digital media such as computers and mobile phones (Germov Poole, 2004). Gender roles and stereotypes influence a societys view on the acceptable characteristics and behaviours for males and females. Children learn these roles and stereotypes (Robinson Diaz, 2006) from an early age as they are influenced by their family, with parents and other family members conveying their own beliefs about how boys and girls should appear and behave (Berryman, Power, Hollitt, 2002). These differences in acceptable female and male behaviour are influenced by both biology (nature) and a childs culture (nurture) (McCleod, 2007). Definition of gender and the beliefs of a family in reinforcing gender roles and stereotypes. How society constructs gender (Robinson Diaz, 2006) and the nurture influence on the process of socialisation (Germov Poole, 2004). Men and womens roles and work (Bessant Watts, 2007) and their impact on an individuals socialisation. Socialisation is a complicated, lifelong process responsible for helping to shape an individuals identity, beliefs and behaviours and how they successfully blend into society. Family, school experiences and gender are three factors which greatly influence this process. An individuals family is responsible for their socialisation however this process is affected by the structure of individual families. An individuals socialisation is influenced by the behaviour of teachers and their interaction with their peers. Societys view on the acceptable characteristics and behaviours for males and females also affects an individuals socialisation process.

Those Winter Sundays :: Literary Analysis, Rita Dove

The poem â€Å"Daystar† by Rita Dove and the poem â€Å"Those Winter Sundays† by Robert Hayden have some similarities, but they also have some differences. These poems mainly deal with parenting and the parenting life as well as their own personal issues. Each parent in the two poems have their children’s best interest at heart, but the two very different parents in two different time periods deal with very similar issues. The poem â€Å"Those Winter Sundays† Robert Hayden expresses regret through this poem about his father. This poem is set when the speaker was a child which makes this poem older than from 1966. The poem is a reflection of his father years before. The speaker describes his father as a hard worker through the week and even on Sundays, which was a weekly routine. The speaker says, â€Å"Sundays too my father got up early / and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, / then with cracked hands that ached / from labor in the weekday weather made / banked fires blaze† (Hayden lines 1-5). The speaker says, â€Å"Sundays too† (Hayden line 1) as if it were included like every other weekday. Traditionally, families rest and participate in other activities other than work on Sundays, but not the speaker’s father. His father worked hard no matter what state the weather was or his physical condition was, he had a family to care for, which was his objective. Next, the speaker says, â€Å"No one ever thanked him† (Hayden line 5). In the poem the speaker also says, â€Å"I would rise and dress, / fearing the chronic angers of that house† (Hayden lines 8 and 9). The speaker’s father was a hard working man only to care and provide for his family, but he did not receive any appreciation from them. Feeling unappreciated is very frustrating which could lead to being angry, especially when the ability to rest is out of reach. The speaker describes his feelings when he would wake up on Sunday mornings as a fearful child. He was a fearful because he knew his father would be frustrated. The father had callused and bruised hands that were painful, he was cold, and felt unappreciated. All the listed factors could build up and make anybody angry or frustrated. Regardless that his father was an angry man he obviously loved his family. The speaker says, â€Å"I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. Pro-Choice Argument Essay -- Abortion, Argumentative, Pro-Choice 2014

Thou shalt not kill; one-tenth of what may arguably be the most famous guidelines of morality in the western culture, and also the main driving force for pro-life advocates. The argument supporting their beliefs typically starts with the premises that a fetus is a person, and to destroy or to kill a person is unethical. Therefore abortion, the premeditated destruction of a human being, is murder, and consequently unethical. I deny the fact that the fetus, what I will refer to as an embryo up to 22 weeks old, has the right to live. The opposing argument is invalid because a fetus, although perhaps a part of human species, is not formally a person. This leaves it simply to be a part of the woman?s body, whose fate lies solely in the hands of the pregnant woman alone, no different from a tumor she might have. By proving this, the abortion debate then becomes an issue of women?s rights, something that is most controversial indeed. Furthermore, it is fair to question the credibility of many people against abortion because of obvious contradictions in the logic of their belief systems. The fact that this debate is relevant in modern society is ludicrous since there is a simple and plausible solution to this problem that could potentially end the debate for good, leaving both sides satisfied. In order for the pro-life argument to be valid, it must have both a true premise and true conclusion. It falls short of validity by assuming that a fetus up to 22 weeks old is a person, and has its own rights independent of its host, or what we often refer to as its mother. First we must recognize the subtle, yet extremely important distinction between a human being and a person. It is obvious that a fetus is a member of the human ... ...erty and Human Rights? The Gay Marriage Debate :: Legalizing Gay Marriage

Within this essay, the main focus will be to develop a thorough analysis and discussion in relation to the topic of gay marriage. In order to construct this, this essay will discuss positions in favor of and against gay marriage. In reference to the position supporting gay marriage, the discussion will focus on; discrimination and equality and respect on individual’s rights. The points that will be discussed contraty to gay marriage will be building upon ideas that we rose in the debate as well as incorporating some new material. Throughout this essay, the ‘for and against’ positions will distinguish between both sides of the argument. Inclusion of scholarly articles will become evident throughout this essay to support the main points that will be made within this argument on gay marriage as well incorporating case studies that support both ‘for and against’ gay marriage. Overall, this essay will display a thorough representation and discussion on h ow gay marriage can be positioned in society with valid points made both ‘for and against’. Gay marriage has slowly become a significant factor amongst individuals of today’s society. Similarly, this leads to the discussion of homosexuals having the right to marry in society. Ultimately, conflict from the opposing position of ‘against’ gay marriage may arise that gay marriage can destroy the concept of marriage and mock the importance of procreation. In reference to this; everyone in society has the right to marry regardless of gender, thus it should be socially acceptable. However, this is why it is significant to discuss both sides of the argument, regardless of if you are ‘for’ or ‘against’ gay marriage in society. In relation to homosexuals, contradiction constantly arises that gay marriage should not be legalised. However, homosexuals do not necessarily want to get marriage but may just want the justification of having equal rights. Thus, in the case if homosexuals do want to marry at some stage of their relationship, accor ding to Nagle, â€Å"people say that banning same sex marriage is not only unfair, but it is also discriminatory† (2010, p.31). In society, denying individuals rights due to their gender, race or sexual orientation is consequently classified as discrimination. Alternatively, to go against gay marriage and not allowing either two females or to males getting married to one another can become a form of illegal discrimination towards society. It is simply giving equal rights to homosexuals and not judging or blocking them out of the marriage institution.

Analysis of Pivotal Moment in “A Separate Peace” Essay

The book, â€Å"A Separate Peace† by John Knowles is a coming of age story of two best friends, Gene and Finny. Although the story is told through Gene’s point of view, his perception of Finny is most important as Finny develops psychologically throughout the book. A pivotal moment in Finny’s psychological development is Brinker’s investigation in Chapter 11, when Finny finally acknowledges it was Gene who pushed him and this changes Finny’s innocent view of the world. Finny sees everyone how he wants to see them, assuming the world is a fundamentally friendly place. In life he always thinks the best of people and counts no one as his enemy, just as he dislikes games with winners and losers. Blitzball, the game he invents where everyone competes furiously but no one wins, shows Finny’s attitude toward life. According to Gene, these qualities make Finny unique. But, Finny’s inability to see others as hostile is his weakness as well as his strength; he refuses to believe any dark motives toward Gene. Finny’s naà ¯ve mindset makes him assume that everyone thinks like he does. This carefree, self-absorbed attitude is one of the roots of Gene’s jealousy of Finny, although Finny, aware only of himself and seeing the good in others, never seems to pick up on Gene’s inner turmoil. Gene’s resentment of his best friend caused him to hold dark, unspoken feelings toward Finny which led him to push Finny off of the tree, making him unable to play sports, his most notable skill. But of course Finny, seeing the best in everyone, refuses to even think that his best friend could have caused the accident. When Gene tries to confess that it was his fault for the accident, Finny refuses to talk about what he doesn’t want to hear. Getting upset at Gene, Finnt tells him, â€Å"If you don’t shut up, I’ll kill you.† However, Brinker’s investigation in chapter 11 shows Finny’s psychological transition when he is finally able to listen to what he doesn’t want to hear. The first time Gene tried to confess that it was his fault; Finny immediately gets upset and simply won’t talk about it. On the other hand, Brinker/s trial forces Finny to accept the truth and illustrates Finny’s psychological development, consi dering Finny doesn’t react like he did the first time Gene tried to talk about the fall. It takes Finny longer  to get angry, and he is more tolerant to talk about the accident. When Brinker asked Finny if he had ever considered that he didn’t just fall out of the tree, implying that someone pushed him, Gene describes Finny’s reaction as it â€Å"touched an interesting point Phineas had been turning over in his mind for a long time. I could tell that because his obstinate, competitive look left his face as his mind became engaged for the first time.† (Pg.169) Finny is then open to talking about the accident and it takes him much longer to get upset than it did the first time. Once Leper told the truth about the fall, Finny became upset again as â€Å"The words shocked Phineas into awareness.† (Pg.177) Finny’s mindset shifts from seeing a world with no wrong to an understanding, less naà ¯ve view.

Mohandas K. Gandhi: The Story of My Experiments with Truth Essay

Truth is equivalent a vast tree, which yields to a greater extent(prenominal) and more fruit, the more you nurture it. The deeper the hunting in the exploit of law the richer the discovery of gems buried on that point, in the shape of openings for an ever greater intermixture of service (Gandhi 191). Mohandas K. Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, and ever since that day has dedicated his vitalityspan to the search for righteousness. During this quest, he became a leader of the Indian Nationalist Movement against British regulating and to this day remains a super influential figure in policy-making activism and social progress. In his autobiography The storey of My Experiments with Truth, Gandhi sh atomic number 18s stories of his triumphs and f all tolds while move to supererogatory India from British rule, all the while trying to stay true to his vows to his m some other and to him self-importance-importance. The tier that shows by dint of brightly in Gandhis a utobiography is that his determine and morals nigh life coincide with his policy-making philosophy. Gandhis main view on line of merchandise and politics is the strictness to truth. He explains this sound when he states Business, they say, is a very matter-of-fact affair, and truth a matter of pietism and they argue that practical affairs ar one thing, while faith is instead another.Pure truth, they capture, is out of the question in business, one can speak it save so far as is suit equal. I strongly contested the model in my speech and awakened the merchants to a sentiency of their duty, which was two-fold. Their responsibility to be truthful was all the greater in a extraneous land, because the conduct of a few Indians was the visor of that of the millions of their fellow-countrymen (109).Gandhis panic to truth dispirits as far back as his high shallow days. During a spelling interrogative sentence Gandhi has trouble spelling the word kettleful. Seeing this t he teacher tries to prompt Gandhi with the stratum of his boot to copy his neighbors answer, with which Gandhi does not move cooperatively and was the only one in the class to misspell the word. He explains, I neer could learn the art of write(4). His devotion to truth only is rein raged as he matures until nowtually he states that he is a, Worshiper of Truth(6) and that, The strugglemth for truth was innate in me(9).Gandhi shows an hold for truth that runs deep in his blood. roughly likely he obtained this ideology from the devotion his mother held within her. He explains of the stupor of his mother while stating, The outstanding characterization my mother has left on my computer memory is that of saintliness. She was profoundly ghostlike. She would not think of winning her meals without her daily prayers(2). Clearly Gandhi received his committed, spiritual mindset from his mother the exception was that Gandhis religion was his search for ultimate truth. To begin his odyssey Gandhi travels to London for training to be put in a barrister. The art of barrister comes with the reputation of existence fill with lies and trickery, which one might say disputes the procedure of Gandhis existence. However, Gandhi does not believe this is so explaining, As a student I had heard that the lawyers profession was a liars profession. further this did not influence me, as I had no intention of earning either position or money by fictionalisation(324). Gandhis pure midriff could not be tainted by plane the most corrupted of professions. After school he returned to India in 1891 and in 1893 genuine a job at an Indian law firm in Durban, southmost Africa.Gandhi was appalled by the treatment of Indian immigrants there, and joined the struggle to obtain elementary rights for them. Gandhis determination to honesty and truth combined with his uprising political lieu granted him great respect in the political community. He realizes this when he states, I als o saw that my devotion to truth enhanced my reputation amongst the members of the profession, and in hurt of the handicap of colour I was able in some cases to win even their propelion(328). Not only is he gaining enough p abatementige to win the cases he is doing it despite the nonwhite color of his skin. The honor he earns in and out of the court elbow room allows him to put up a intrepid effort in his fend for for Indian rights. His value in his political war be synonymous with the strict values he holds in his real life. unrivaled of the main aspects of his life is religion. To prove this he states, It is that faith which sustains me(335). Faith and religion holds a deep place in his heart and coincides with how he feels politics should be handled. He states, I can say without the slightest hesitation, and insofar in all humility, that those who say that religion has nothing to do with politics do not know what religion means(454).For instance, when Gandhi goes to experi ence the Bengal religion he is deeply troubled by the tradition of sacrificing a lamb and explains To my mind the life of a lamb is no little rare that that of a humilitary soulnel being. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitle it is to protection by military personnel from the cruelty of man(208). In Gandhis eyes it is not moral to wipe out any life including one that is less powerful than a human being. This religious view that he holds translates to how he deals with issues in society. Such as the terrible Zulu rebellion, a rebellion in sulfur Africa against British rule.Hearing of the rebellion Gandhi did not fight back or fight with the South Africans he simply set up an Ambulance Corps and helped the South African victims. done out all of his life Gandhi never once impairmented anyone to get his political storey across, for that was not in his religion to do so. Just as religion abnormal the way he viewed politics, so did his dieting. For a majori ty of his life Gandhi has been a vegetarian, which was all started by a vow that he promised to his mother in his young great(p) life. The main value that his strict diet has taught him is self restraint in the rest of his life.He mentions this saying, One should eat not in order to please the palate, further just to keep the body saveton(287). When Gandhi cave ins up the pleasure one gets from consume he withdraw froms it simply to the biological ingest of the task. He explains the difference between his life and of others when he states The diet of a man of self-restraint must be distinguishable from that of a man of pleasure, just as their shipway of life must be different (292). He uses his value of self restraint to his political advantage when he dissembles his stance simply by being controlled and not reacting to the situation. For example, while him and some of his lineing are retrieving peeing from the well they are faced with great abuse and are told that they would pollute the water. To combat this, Gandhi uses great self restraint and simply tells everyone, put up with the abuse and continue drawing water at any cost, this kit and caboodle beautifully, later when he saw that we did not return his abuse, the man became ashamed and ceased to hurting us(356). Gandhis use of self restraint and self control give him up the upper hand in any political fight and like this one, always almost end up in a victory for him in the end. Both his self restraint and non effect values come in to track down in Gandhis main political weapon, civil noncompliance. Civil Disobedience involves making a stand and taking do against a social injustice, however, using blast peace and never once resorting to furiousness. Gandhi explains it shell when he says, A nation that wants to come into its own ought to know all the ways and means to freedom. Usually they include violence as the last remedy, civil noncompliance, on the other hand, is an absolutely no n-violent weapon. (339).An instance where this strategy is employ is while the government is trying to force its Indian citizens to impart an unnecessary revenue enhancement on their crops with no exceptions, even in a famine. Gandhi forms a pledge to be signed by all the affected citizens that simply states that they will not pay the taxes anymore. No violence is used and no emotional or physical perturb comes in to play. plot of ground Gandhi does not cope the consequences of the pledge in his autobiography the reader realizes the courage it takes to stand up to trust calmly and not defensively.A more famous example where there was a beautiful demonstration of civil disobedience is the salt march that Gandhi led his followers on. When the citizens were being taxed excessively on salt, Gandhi leads them on a march to the sea to make their own salt in knowledge to the governments taxes. Gandhi explains the powerful affect this has on the batch when he states, The heap h ad for the moment lost all fear of punishment and yielded obedience to the power of savour which their new friend exercised(367).Civil disobedience not only works magically to solve social problems it does it without causing harm to either party involved and causes a strong community atmosphere to develop, which works faster to solve difficult political issues. Civil disobedience is a constituent to todays society that will never be forgotten and never taken for granted. Gandhi will unceasingly leave an impact in every persons heart. He used his anomalous values and morals to free the Indian citizens from harsh British rule. His politics never deterred from what he held deep in his heart. He answered the tough questions such as, What if everything is pointing me to do something I do not believe in? and Where do you step aside from your values for the betterment of your community? . His answer to these questions are always follow your heart and follow what you believe is true. Ga ndhi dealt with extreme turmoil and through out every obstacle never stopped on his quest for the truth. While not every step there was smooth, it was a determined path none the less. When Gandhi explains the symbol of a Court of legal expert he states that it is a pair of scales held every bit by an impartial and blind but sagacious woman. Fate has purposely make her blind, in order that she may not judge a person from his outdoor but from his intrinsic worth(127). This is corresponding to Gandhis view on life and politics. He does not judge the people around him, he takes the situation for what it is, truly, and does what he believes in his heart is right. While Gandhi has had an undreamed impact in politics forever his real lessons begin in purpose ourselves, and the truth within ourselves.

DEVELOPING STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS Essay

DEVELOPING STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS Essay

Leadership is rather different. There are interconnection between leaders and managers. Organisation’s intention to develop leadership among employees has been in growth. It is because they realised the potentials of public good leaders. Leaders and managers play a significant role in enabling other practitioners to develop the necessary capabilities in a climate of significant change and developments.Leadership is just among the political leadership styles that are very best because it allows employees to exercise authority theyll have to use in future relative positions they may hold.Myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. But he was forced to resign in 2007 total due to a personal scandal.Management is necessary.Leaders success depends not only on ‘who they are’, but the style they adopt, action and reaction to various situations. None of the leadership style is appropriated in click all situations. Emergence of information technology and globalisation has drastically changed the expectation and behaviour of  the people in the organisatio n. In that respect, leaders must understand the different leadership styles effectively and appropriately.

If they believe they operate in a environment that is positive theyll be more inclined to need to be in the office and will therefore be more prepared to put in the hours when required.Types of team players involved 3. Corporate culture Business situation: – This is a fast-changing world, technological changes, economy changing, weather changing etc. In such a situation a leader cannot lose the sense of changes. Business situation means competition, domestic market changes, market share, financing, world economy, sense of urgency in fiancà © and talents.Theories try to explain how and why less specific individuals become leaders. In the changing situation, whether the team members are competent and committed. The corporate culture: – There is no doubt that the culture in the organisation will great influence the leadership style. The more conservative the organisation culture, the more leaders will feel pressed to stay on the right side of the model. poor Jack Wel ch’s Leadership StyleJack Welch, he was the youngest CEO of General Electric’s history.

Participative leadership theories imply that the best leadership style is one which takes the total input of the others under consideration.Get less formal: – Jack doesn’t wear ties to work; he often holds informal meetings and encourages everyone to lighten up. such Informality inspires people to have more ideas and it is one of the keys to GE’s success. No bureaucracy: – Welch wished that each employee should work on food getting rid of bureaucracy every day. Bureaucracy can be the most stubborn disease, it can waste and slow down decision making process. He tried to eliminate complicated interoffice memos and letters. Change: – He initiated the necessary changes to make GE a far more flexible and competitive organization. He made ‘change’ a part of GE’s shared value.Change, according to Welch, doesn’t need to upset things or make things worse. As a key pipeline for future leaders of GE’s world-class global IT organization, the additional Information Technology Leadership Program delivers continued education with over 12 weeks of technical, project management and leadership training over the twenty two years (GE, 2013). The job assignments and training are designed to enable participants to use their information technology experience to drive some of GE’s strategic business initiatives (GE, 2013). Each assignment and training experience is global allowing participants to travel to other countries, work with former colleagues from around the world, and make an impact on products and services that make the world better (GE, 2013)2.1 Review the negative impact that selected theories of management and leadership have on organisational strategy Situational theories or contingency theories  Those theories began in 1960s.

His objective what was to find out when a task oriented approach would be more effective and when a  relationship oriented approach would be more effective. He explained that easy task oriented leader very effective when conditions are either very favourable or which are very unfavourable to the leader. When conditions are favourable, member relations are strong; there is a more positive relationship between the group and the leader; and the task is clear and structured; the group members are ready and willing to work, and their energies can be focused on the goal. Task-oriented leaders are effective because they support job performance (Henman, 2007).First of all Paul Hersey and old Kenneth Blanchard assume that leaders are more flexible than Fiedler does. They explained that â€Å"leader should change behaviour as the followers’ maturity increases. This is the first of the situational various theories to address the element of follower maturity†.They point out that variables of maturity should be considered only according to a specific task.On the basis of this, they are considered as leaders. Each theory differs slightly. That indicates that there is no one best among all types of style. Successful leader is the one who can adapt to the changes. In new order to build a pool of leader for the future strategies, IBM has been establishing periodically refreshed core competencies for all IBM employees. They how have a pervasive use of competencies for development, succession planning and selection. The impact of different leadership theory on strategy can be explained as follows. good For example let’s consider contingency theory.

Hence effectiveness of strategy can be maintained. In an intermediate situation, relationship oriented style is best. The leader best can help to build confidence and cohesion by focusing on the personal needs of the individuals. That was the approach adopted by old Jack Welch, GE.The company continued success is an immortal line from Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb and founder of GE. The direct current CEO of GE is Jeffrey Immelt. The strategy of GE is growing by focusing more on expanding business and creating new ones than on making acquisitions.Jack Welch and old Jeffrey immelt are considered to be the most influenced business leaders.Transformational leadership style is better for GE. They have the story of success using the thk same style. Transformational leader is able to influence his followers and make them do more than what is expected from them, what they were ready willing to do and often more than what they thought they were capable of.Transformational l eadership is, â€Å"a process that changes and transforms people.Transformational leadership is composed of four key elements, influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. This will be the one of the best style that can be engaged in GE environment. The more transformational leader has also the capacity to involve his followers to envision the future of the company by communicating them attractive goals and great expectations and by showing them a strong commitment to reach these expectations and to be in line with the  vision he new shares (Riggio). Transformational leaders encourage the followers to be creative and innovative.

Transformation leader can take risk, as Jack Welch did in GE.Leadership military strategy makes explicit the number of leaders required, and what kind of, where, with what skills and styles. GE’s corporate strategy is to expand instead of alliances. So they great need thousands of leaders all around the world. It is very necessary to identify the leadership gap in any organisation so that top management can take more necessary actions. Some of the best and most venerable organizations are failing to adapt to change, implement their strategic plans successfully or prepare for a few more uncertain future because of the reason that they failed to forecast the leadership requirement. Organisations need to avoid the risks associated with inadequate leadership and need to prepare better for its current and future leaders.Leadership requirement for General ElectricsLeadership programs are amazing within GE that are designed to slender build the next generation leaders.Profit of GE grows consistently. Company serves customers in more than 100 countries. Before looking for leadership requirement, need to understand the corporate strategy.Leadership first requirement can be planned based on that. They need leaders at various levels. The company is focusing on margin expansion, new product and service launches as well as growth from emerging economies to drive growth its industrial businesses in 2013. Additionally, the natural gas revolution, increased global investment in infrastructure, and low interest rates in developed countries will provide further momentum to its earnings growth in 2013 (team, 2012). These new new strategies hopefully drive them to big success.

We can say that a good leader takes the right decision at the right time. Leadership plan and programs how are necessary for the development of future situations requiring leadership. Those programs are very effective. They need to add more values to those programs. Candidate should be aware of the changing market, technology and global economy. Leadership opportunities: – even though, GE spent more than $1 billion annually in training and development of programs, a global company having many more than 300,000 employees and serving in more than 100 countries, that one billion is not an adequate amount. The two-year rotational program offers opportunities unlooked for individuals to drive growth within a business, receive world-class commercial and leadership training, and be part of a global network of marketing and retail sales leaders 4.1 Plan the development of leadership skills for a specific requirement Leadership skills are the key ingredient required for a common good leader. Some would say key ingredient in management. The basic leadership skills required in most situations are same.Trust is essential in all human relations. Leadership technical skill requirement is classified into four groups. 1. Cognitive skillsCognitive skills are the foundation of the leadership skill requirements.Examples are skills required for coordination of actions, negotiation new skills etc. 3. Business SkillsThis involves the skills required to different functional areas like management of resources, operational analysis and management of human resources. 4.This best can develop through practices. Doesn’t require talents, but commitment is necessary. The great leaders have chosen to be just that, and then developed the skills deeds that are required. Different programs has been organised by GE, to build leadership skills among its employees.

Experienced program: Human Resource strong Leadership program (HRLP). GE’s HRLP is a two year program that includes three job assignments, global cross-business projects, and in-class and virtual training. 3. Experienced Commercial political Leadership program (ELCP).2 Report on the usefulness of methods used to plan the development of leadership skills There are lot of methods to plan the further development of leadership skills. Different methods are useful in different situations. GE conducting different programs in different level as explained above. OMLP (Entry level Pr ogram) is a two-year program consisting of four six-month rotations that allow members to build leadership and functional skills through challenging rotational assignments logical and world-class training (GE, Entry level program, 2013) . Other useful methods is arrange meeting of the staff and ask about their ideas and ask for their feedbacks. The personal best method, however, is getting feedback from the staffs.Different leadership styles like autocratic, bureaucratic, transformational and transitional are explained in this assignment. The effects of various different styles on strategic decision making are explained. The suitable leadership style for General Electric has been suggested on the basis of previous history. Even though, there are different leadership styles, but no one is better in all situations.
